Hands Repairing Air Conditioner

Central Heat Systems

Already have ductwork? You're most of the way to a heat pump. If your home has central air conditioning or a gas, oil or propane furnace with ducts in good condition, the Viessmann Vitocal 100-S lets you keep that ductwork, your refrigerant line set and even your furnace, and replace only the outdoor unit with a cold-climate inverter heat pump. One system then heats and cools the whole house, cuts energy costs by up to 30% compared to fixed-speed equipment, and qualifies for Clean Heat RI and Mass Save rebates. New ducted installations are also available for those who want the clean look of registers and returns.

The Vitocal 100-S

The Vitocal 100-S is a ducted inverter heat pump from Viessmann that pairs cold-climate inverter technology with the ductwork you already own. Efficiency reaches 19.0 SEER2 and 10.8 HSPF2, inverter control can cut energy costs by up to 30% versus fixed-speed equipment, and the system is rated to heat and cool from -22°F to 122°F, so it carries a Rhode Island winter on its own. Outdoor units run from 18,000 to 60,000 BTU, enough to match everything from a small cape to a large colonial. ENERGY STAR certified models are eligible for Clean Heat RI and Mass Save rebates.

It is built for retrofits. The outdoor unit connects to existing line sets and ductwork, pairs with a Viessmann air handler or with a cased coil on your current furnace for dual fuel operation, and works with any standard 24V thermostat, so most homes see a mess-free changeout with no walls opened. The low-profile outdoor unit takes about a quarter of the space of a traditional top-discharge condenser, runs whisper quiet, and uses R-454B refrigerant with 75% lower global warming potential than the previous generation.
